Ms. Xiaohan Yang passed the PhD oral comprehensive exam

In the morning of December 18, 2023, Ms. Xiaohan Yang successfully passed her PhD oral comprehensive exam. The title of her exam report is “Environment Behavior and Fate of Microplastics in Coastal Waters”. Her profound knowledge and excellent presentation helped her win a good evaluation from the external examiner, Dr. Ivan Kantor, and other examining committee members (Drs. Biao Li, Jaehoon Hwang, and Chunjiang An).

Mr. Linxiang Lyu passed the PhD research proposal exam

In the morning of December 12, 2023, Mr. Linxiang Lyu successfully passed his PhD research proposal exam. The title of his proposal is “Assessing the changes and impacts of disposable face masks in the environment: A step towards sustainable materials and eco-friendly products”. His profound knowledge and excellent presentation helped him win a good evaluation from the external examiner, Dr. Yaser Khojasteh-Salkuyeh, and other examining committee members (Drs. Joonhee Lee, Zhi Chen, Monisha Bagchi, and Chunjiang An).

Dr. An received the 2022-2023 Gina Cody School EDI Research Grant

Dr. An received the 2022-2023 Gina Cody School EDI Research Grant. The team’s project will explore the crucial role of Indigenous communities in addressing environmental problems, covering topics such as emerging pollution problems, climate change adaptation, traditional ecological knowledge, biodiversity conservation, Indigenous leadership in decision-making, and the challenges faced by Indigenous communities. Despite their sustainable way of life, Indigenous communities are disproportionately affected by many emerging environmental problems such as climate change, deforestation, and pollution. Recognizing and addressing these issues can help create a more equitable and sustainable future for Indigenous communities.

In the afternoon of November 23, 2023, Mr. Rengyu Yue successfully passed his PhD thesis defence. The title of his thesis is “Advancing Shoreline Oil Spill Response with Green Functional Nanomaterials”.
