Congratulations to Dr. Zhikun Chen for serving as the valedictorian at Concordia University’s Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science Fall 2025 Convocation on October 28 — a remarkable recognition of his academic excellence and leadership!

He earned his PhD from our Department of Department of Building, Civil and Environmental Engineering. His research develops innovative ways to clean water by removing microplastics and other contaminants, offering practical solutions to protect ecosystems and support northern and Indigenous communities. He has published 32 peer-reviewed articles, including several first-author papers in top scientific journals. His work has also been featured in major media outlets for its scientific impact and social relevance.
